The GPF Tip Jar

For several years, one of the biggest online fads appears to be online donations and "tips." Everywhere you look, online cartoonists, bloggers, FLOSS developers, and other Web site owners are flashing up PayPal buttons, begging you for donations. I've always been against this trend, mostly due to my own personal reasons. I don't like handouts, whether it means I'm giving them or asking for them. Especially the latter. So I won't ask you to donate money to me. However, many of you have asked me to make this available. So who am I to turn you down?
Using this page, you can choose to send money to me in appreciation of GPF. This service is made available by popular demand... it's not a plea for you to give me money because <sarcasm> I'm so broke and I can't afford to buy toothpaste. </sarcasm> However, for those of you who think GPF is worth a little more than what you pay for it (i.e., free), and you feel compelled to dip into your wallet, here's your chance. We now accept tips through PayPal as well as snail-mail tips. There's no limit set on how much you want to give (or how often). Just don't go without eating for a whole month, because you gave me your entire paycheck, OK? ;)
Please note that THERE IS NO OBLIGATION STATED NOR IMPLIED by this service. GPF will always be free to read online, for as long as I am capable of making it. This service is available strictly for those who wish to make use of it, and you get nothing in return besides a warm, fuzzy feeling. I prefer to look at it as grateful, loyal fans giving a gift of appreciation to someone they feel as a deserving artist. If you don't want to give (or just can't for whatever reason), then don't feel bad. It's strictly voluntary.
For those of you tempted to drop recurring tips: May we humbly suggest a GPF Premium subscription instead? Not only will you be financially supporting the strip, but you'll get tons of nifty perks in return, like exclusive content, ad-free surfing of the site, and discounts in the Store.

The Online Tip Jar Experiment Why the Results Could be Underwhelming — Or Even Harmful — For Artists

Akibul hasan
Sunday, Jul 14, 2012
I thoroughly enjoyed my recent conversation with Matt Goyer, President and CEO of Fairtunes. I think it’s great to see individuals experimenting with different models within the music industry. Their ideas have been met with much enthusiasm in the fan community, and with much interest in the music industry. People like the idea of paying artists directly, cutting out middle men, and being absolved of their Napster guilt.
I’m also pleased that this experiment is intended to provide compensation to musicians for their labor. Fairtunes, and other voluntary contribution mechanisms like it, start with an assumption I agree with — that the work of musicians is valuable to individuals and to society. Their goals are focused on notions of fairness and value. Their idealism is certainly to be commended.
That said, I think this economic experiment should be viewed scientifically. Hypotheses should be proposed and tested. Fairtunes, for instance, has based their model on at least two key hypotheses: first, that sufficient numbers of music fans will be exposed to the tip jar mechanism through either the Fairtunes website or the Fairtunes software embedded in media players, and second, that such exposure will generate significant amounts of revenue for artists. Over time, we can evaluate whether those things will hold true.
I have some additional hypotheses to propose in this article, based on some economic reasoning and analysis. These hypotheses are not as rosy as those of the proponents of voluntary contribution mechanisms are. But it’s important for the music community to be thinking about these critical inquiries along with the blithe optimistic predictions. We can’t go looking for good news or bad news based only on the assumptions of the businesses that created online tip jars. We should focus on evaluating whether online tip jars have positive or negative effects on musicians.
A quick note: In my interview with Matt Goyer, I did not present the critiques of the voluntary contribution concept in their most robust form. I think it’s important to be able to read and understand his thoughts in that interview more than mine. But I certainly invite Matt, his colleagues, and like-minded folks to take issue with any and all of my assumptions and arguments in the Insound forum.

Face Beauty Tip How To Use Makeup To Thin Your Face

How To Use Makeup To Thin Your Face
Killer cheekbones like Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s can be yours with just a swipe of blush in a few key places.
Let's face it — we didn't all win the genetic lottery on great bone structure. Fortunately Mally Roncal, the makeup genius behind the faces of celebs like Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez, and the creator of Mally Beauty, gave us the low down on faking starlet-worthy cheekbones, a skinny chin and a nose that'll make a plastic surgeon cry.

• For cheekbones that pop, sweep a sheer shimmer powder along the top of your cheekbones and just under your temples. This will highlight your bone structure to make it look more pronounced. Next, pucker up to find the hollows of your cheeks, then dust a deep nude blush in the sunken area just under the cheekbone. Now smile and apply a peachy blush using the "cinnamon bun method"—use circular motions, starting at the apple of the cheek and slowly make larger circles with the brush. Try Mally Beauty Shimmer, Shape and Glow Face Defining System, which has all three blush shades.

• To hide a double chin, you'll need a contour powder which is a cool deep nude blush. It shouldn't have any sparkles or warm undertones. We like: MAC Powder Blush in Strada Sweep it just behind your ear, then under your jawline and all the way to your chin. Make sure to gently blend the powder into your neck as to avoid an unsightly line. "This little trick creates a shadow, which in turn makes your chin look less noticeable," says Roncal.

• If you want to make your nose less prominent, use a skinny crease brush and, starting at the inner part of your eyebrow, sweep a contour powder down both sides of your nose, over both nostrils. Join the lines under the tip of the nose. "Be sure to blend so you don't see lines, just shadows," says Roncal. Then gently swipe a matte highlighting powder down the center for a slimmer straighter nose. We like: Mary Kay Mineral Highlighting Powder in Pink Porcelain

Face Beauty Tip What kind of natural foundation is right for you?

What kind of natural foundation is right for you?
Natural makeup is a simple way to give your skin a healthy glow like Laura Linney's.
There's been a lot of buzz on natural beauty products, but deciphering what's good for your skin type is tricky. Here celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip lays out your options.

Mineral makeup is composed of natural, crushed up minerals like titanium dioxide and mica. It has natural sunblock properties, so it's good for people who are very sun-sensitive or for those who breakout from conventional sunscreens. It is also non-comedogenic, making it a good choice for people with dry skin or ailments like rosacea. Also, minerals are inorganic so bacteria are unable to live in them, giving them a long shelf life without the use of preservatives. We like: Bare Escentuals BareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation, Lancôme Ageless Minérale Skin-Transforming Mineral Powder Foundation and ColorScience Suncanny Foundation Brush SPF 20.

Natural makeup is a catch-all term for products made with a high percentage of all-natural ingredients and a very small to non-existent amount of synthetics. They're also usually made with a base of water—instead of oil—so they are a great option if you are prone to breakouts or have acne. We like: Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Your Skin Makeup, Tarte ReCreate Natural Anti-Aging Foundation and Almay Pure Blends Makeup.

Organic makeup contains ingredients that are not only natural, but that are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This is the purest type of makeup, so it's a safe choice for highly sensitive skin. It's also good for people with skin allergies or who have been suffering from irritated skin. Hard-to-diagnose skin flare-ups are often caused by a reverse reaction or minor allergy to a preservative. We love: Physician’s Formula Organic Wear Face Sculpting Trio and SukiColor Tinted Active Moisturizer.

When shopping, be forewarned that the terms "natural" and "organic" aren't regulated by the FDA. Products containing synthetic ingredients and chemicals may use those words on their packaging, even if they only contain one or two natural ingredients. Schlip advises consumers to read labels carefully and learn to identify potentially harmful and irritating ingredients like parabens, sulfates and petrochemicals. Also, look for stamps of approval from certification brands like the USDA and Eco-Cert to let you know that a product is a reputable green one.

Hair Beauty Tip How To Tame Dry Hair

How To Tame Dry Hair
Soft, shiny, healthy-looking hair like Alessandra Ambrosio’s is easy to achieve if you know how to treat your tresses.
Keeping your hair shiny, soft and healthy gets exponentially more difficult when the weather gets colder. Lack of moisture and increased heat styling spell double trouble for dry, fragile hair. Here's how to rescue winter ravaged locks.

1. Replenish lost moisture. Dry hair is a result of lack of moisture, both in the air and in your body. Tackle the problem from both the inside out and the outside in. Be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water a day and use a hydrating daily conditioner, plus a weekly mask. "Nourishing the hair via two different nutrient sources will dramatically improve its condition," says Natasha Sunshine, stylist and owner of the Byu-ti Hair Therapy Salon in Santa Monica, CA. We like: Pureology HydrateCondition and Redken Real Control Intense Renewal Super Moisturizing Mask.

2. Avoid over-using heat styling tools. When your hair is dehydrated and brittle, the last thing you want to do is fry it even more with a flat iron or blowdryer. "If you need to use a flat iron or a curling iron, wash your hair the night before and let it dry naturally so you can skip the blow dryer in the morning," she says.

3. Get your hair cut regularly. In these tough economic times everyone is trying to scrimp on the little luxuries, but a bi-monthly trim is worth it. "This will eliminate beat-up ends so your hair will look shinier and healthier. You’ll only need to take a smidge off to get great results," says Sunshine.

4. Be consistent. There's no quick fix for damaged hair and it can take anywhere from three to six months to fully heal dried out tresses. That means you’ll need to be diligent about your recovery routine in order to see real results.

Skincare Beauty Tip Secrets for Flawless Skin – Even in Winter Months

We all know that one baby-faced person with perfect skin. No blemishes, no dry spots - just a smooth, clear, radiant complexion. How do they achieve and maintain such a perfect complexion year-round? Here are some secrets.
1.Science and Medicine. The main thing women use to achieve the baby-face complexion are pills. There are several different kinds of pills that can control acne; birth control, hormones, antibiotics or pills specifically made for controlling acne. If you want to go this route, talk with your doctor and find out which would best be suited for you. If you are nature-oriented and do not want to mess around with pills, keep on reading. There are more beauty care secrets!
2.Use Cool Water. Many of us have long been taught that drying out your skin is the best way to control acne. We have news! It's not. Drying out your skin will cause it to produce more oil to gain back its 'protective layer'. Washing your face with a mild gel, such as Cetaphil or Spectrojel, and rinsing with cool-lukewarm water will keep your skin clean and clear without drying it out.
3.Keep Hydrated – Inside and Out. Aside from drinking plenty of water each day, fill your sink with lukewarm or cool water and add a few drops of oil. Coconut oil and Almond Oil are great choices. Hold your breath and soak your face for as long as you can. Come up for air and keep soaking for about 3-5 minutes. Your skin loves to soak up water, and you probably know that after having a long bath your skin feels the most soft and smooth. Finish your soak by immediately applying a light, unscented facial moisturizer and either let your skin air-dry or gently pat dry with a towel.
4.Blot Excess Oil. If your skin is constantly oily and shiny, blot with oil absorbing sheets. There are many different brands and they all have one main goal; to remove excess oil without the need for adding more pore-clogging powder to your face. Keeping as less stuff off your face as possible will keep it looking fresh and healthy.
5.Keep it Clean! The number one rule of maintaining healthy looking and flawless skin is to keep your hands off it. Your hands and fingertips are crawling with bacteria. You don't want this on your face and seeping into your pores. This is the number one way breakouts occur! Try to keep as much away from your face as possible and always remember to wash off your makeup at the end of each day.
Following these simple beauty care tips will give you smooth, clear and hydrated skin making it easy to apply makeup or feel confident without wearing any cover-up at a

Hair Beauty Tip Long Wavy Hairstyles: Have Them Naturally

What do Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, and Rachel Bilson have in common? Besides their A-rate Hollywood status, beautiful face, they also sport long wavy hairstyles, which definitely looks great and help bring out their beauty. It's no wonder, therefore, that you also dream one for yourself. A long wavy hair is always well loved because it has more volume and body, soft to the eyes, flowing, and free. It doesn't require a lot of maintenance unlike straight hair.
The good news is that you don't need to be naturally born with it. There are already a number of ways on how you can achieve a long wavy hairstyle.
But before we proceed to the techniques, there's something you should know. These suggestions are devoid of any hot appliances such as curling irons. Some women would depend on these devices to achieve a little curl here and there on their hair. Though they are effective and can give you the look in a matter of minutes, they are not healthy at all. The intense heat they produce can dry the hair up, leaving you with brittle, dull, or even frizzed hair.
Here are the things you can do instead:

Hair Beauty Tip Hairstyle Tips for the Fabulously Framed

Putting on a pair of glasses is the ultimate way to showcase your personality and style to the world. As "spexy" ladies already know, donning a pair of frames instantly changes your look. The good news is that you've done the hardest part—you found a frame that's a perfect fit. The next step is a cinch; just make a few quick adjustments to your hairstyle and your spec-tacular look will be complete.
Whether you're fresh on the eyewear scene or a seasoned guru, these tips offer simple solutions to the most commonly faced issues when choosing the most flattering hairstyle for your glasses:
Large Frames
Large eyeglasses can easily take center stage if they're not accompanied by the proper hairstyle. Your best bet is to pump up the volume with a big and voluminous hairstyle, starting with your roots, and keep your hair long and layered. If your hair falls flat and straight, you run the risk of your eyeglasses overshadowing your beautiful face.
Small Frames
Petite facial features look best in smaller frames, but if your look lacks the right hairstyle, the result can be boring. While small frames can appear more demure, you can still show them off with hot new hair. Try sporting a short-cropped, wavy haircut that will open up your face. Steer clear from harsh, chin-length bobs which can make your face appear smaller.
Wide Frames
While wide frames can be statement makers, you want to make sure the overall statement you're making is a good one. If your hair has too much volume on the sides then your face will appear wider. Instead, focus on making sure your 'do does just the opposite and go for length by adding a little volume at the top followed by chunky, textured bangs and luscious, straight locks.

Hair Beauty Tips Top 4 Hair Styles

Every year brings a new collection of trendy hair styles. There are 4 types of styles this year that will be popular: They include wavy hairstyles, hair styles with layers, hairstyles with bangs and the bob hair style.
Wavy – This hair style features soft, bouncy waves all over. Create this hairstyle by first applying a curl-enhancing cream or gel and a heat protectant to damp hair. Blow dry the hair using a diffuser attachment and just your fingers to shape and position the hair. Once the hair is completely dry, you can add all over waves using a medium barrel curling iron. Roll up small sections of hair in the curling iron and hold in a vertical position for about 20-30 seconds, or until the hair in the curling iron feels hot to the touch.
Layers– Layers are a great addition to any haircut. They help to add movement to a style, reduce bulkiness and can sometimes make styling easier. If you have extra frizzy or thick hair, you will want to go with very long layers as short layers do not work well with frizzy hair. A very popular trend today is to get a short to medium length haircut with very long layers added throughout. The short shag hairstyle, similar to Meg Ryan's in Harry met Sally, is making a comeback this year. It has that heavy layered- looks like you grabbed the scissors and started cutting your hair every which way-look that can be worn in a short or medium length.
Bangs – Hair bangs, like layers, are a great addition to any haircut. The most popular type is the side-swept bang. These bangs are longer, past the eyebrow, and are styled swept off to one side of the face for a very flattering look. There is also the full bang, short and choppy bang and the fringe bangs. Fringe bangs are just a hint of bang and are the best type of bang to start with if you have never had bangs before. Create the piecey bangs look quickly by applying a small amount of pomade to the ends of the hair.
Bobs – The bob is still a very popular style. Although bob trendsetters Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes no longer wear bob hairstyles, this type of cut is still popular because of its flattering appearance and easy style-ability. There are many different versions of the bob, including the inverted bob, short, medium and long length bobs. Adding highlights or lowlights to the bob haircut can create a more dimensional look.

Gorgeus Yet Unfussy Makeup for Natural Look

Sometimes after putting on makeup you wish that if you only looked a little unfussy, right? You wanted it to be more natural? Well, achieving the Natural Look is easy.

You don't have to be a makeup wiz to do it, and it is perfect for those who want the gorgeous yet unfussy look.Putting on makeup can be a daunting task for women who are not really adept at the art of makeup and are not familiar with the right techniques and with picking the right colors for their skin tone and eye color. Common fears include choosing the wrong colors for the skin or colors that do not match the outfit, putting on too little or too much, or botching the makeup altogether.
unfussy makeup

Instead of putting on makeup, there are women who opt for just the ordinary face powder or talcum powder and a dash of lipstick (which may or may not be the right color for their lips either), and then they are done.
Makeup is supposed to enhance the features of our face rather than to cover it, and nothing is more alluring than what is known as the natural look. For those who do not know much about makeup, or know nothing at all, achieving the natural look is pretty easy. The key to doing it is matchingthe color of your foundation with the tones of your skin, as well as using shades that go well with the undertones of your skin.

A quick tip for buying foundation: when buying foundation, test the match of the product with your skin tone by applying it against your jaw line and letting it on your face for a few minutes. Go ahead and see how it looks like in daylight, rather than in artificial light to see how well it goes with your skin. The perfect foundation for you blends well with the color of your skin, so much that it is hardly noticeable.

Tips for Skin with Beige Tones:

If your skin has beige tones. If your skin has beige tones with a touch of peach or pink, the colors you should go for are shades of peach, pink and apricot for your lips and cheeks. Cover up whatever blemishes you have on your skin with a concealer before applying the foundation, and then dust the foundation off with matching loose powder. Make sure that your foundation has SPF because skin like yours burns easily under the sun. Also, try not to put on too much makeup on your face because too much will look harsh on your skin and make you look older. Finish off with a shimmering peach or pink lip gloss.

Tips for Skin with Olive Tones:

If your skin has olive tones. If your skin has olive tones, the best way to go is with foundation with warm colors like golden brown. Skin with olive tones is also generally oilier than most, so try to stay away from foundation with shimmer in it to reduce the shine. For a sun-kissed look, apply a touch of bronzer on the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and a little on your forehead. For your lips, outline it with a nude-colored lip pencil, and then apply clear gloss.

Tips for Skin with Yellow Tones:

unfussy makeup If your skin has yellow tones. If your skin has yellow tones, stay away from ivory or pink for your foundation and stick to warmer hues with a yellow base. Also, avoid using powder foundations; yellow-toned skin tends to get dry and flaky, and so powder foundations will only emphasize this unnecessarily. Finish with a light cream blush, colored pink, on the apples of your cheeks, and a light pink gloss for your lips.

To get a smoother finish on your foundation, apply moisturizer on your skin first as a base. Remember to put on only the right amount of moisturizer and dab off any excess with tissue. Too little moisturizer will make it hard for the foundation to blend, and too much will make your makeup run off your skin.

Most Expensive Food in the World

This has been a difficult list to write because the prices of these items vary from season to season. However, despite that, these 10 foods are generally the most expensive things you can eat. The ordering is based partly on price and partly on how luxurious they are considered to be.

1. Beluga Caviar:
Beluga Caviar is the most expensive food item in the world, costing up to $5,000 per kilogram. Caviar is fish roe (eggs) and this particular brand comes from the Beluga Sturgeon, found mostly in the Caspian sea. It can take up to 20 years for a Beluga Sturgeon to reach its maximum size and they can weigh up to 2 tonnes. The eggs are the largest of the fish eggs used for caviar. Beluga usually ranges from purple to black, the palest being the most expensive. Beluga caviar is generally served on its own on small pieces of toast as it needs no additions of flavour to improve it.
If you have not experienced eating caviar, when you bite down each egg pops and releases a slightly salty-fishy flavour.

1. Saffron:
Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world, reaching prices beyond $2,000 per pound (depending on season). Saffron is the three stigmas and style of the crocus flower. Each stigma and style must be picked by hand and it takes thousands to make a single ounce of the spice. Brightly yellow in colour, the spice is used for colouring and subtle flavouring of food. It has a bitter taste and a hay-like fragrance.

2. White Truffles:
Truffles are from the underground ascomycetes family (tubers) and are reputed for their high prices. It has an odour similar to deep fried walnuts which is extremely pungent to some people, causing a reeling effect. Interestingly, some people are unable to detect the odour of truffles (which is possibly to their advantage!) The white truffle is the most expensive of the family. They are generally served sliced into extremely thin slivers on top of other food and are frequently suffused in oil for sale as truffle-oil.

3. Kobe Beef:
True Kobe Beef (神戸ビーフ) – raised from the black Tajima-ushi breed of Wagyu cattle – is produced only in Hyōgo Prefecture in Japan. It is bred according to secret, and strict traditions. It is fed on beer and grain and produces meat so tender and fatty that it rivals foie gras in texture. The beef can cost up to $300 per pound. This breed of cow is genetically predisposed to intense marbling, and produces a higher percentage of oleaginous, unsaturated fat than any other breed of cattle known in the world. Another special trick in the production of this meat is daily massages by the human owners. I must confess to being a little envious!

5. Bird’s Nest:
The nests in question here are produced by a variety of Swifts, specifically Cave Swifts who produce the nest by spitting a chemical compound that hardens in the air. The nests are considered a delicacy in China and are one of the most expensive animal products consumed by humans. It is generally served as a soup but can also be used as a sweet. When combined with water, the hard nests take on a gelatinous texture. My own experience of Bird’s nest was in a pudding called Bird’s Nest and Almond soup – the nest was dissolved in almond milk which was served as a sweet soup. The nest tasted musty and had the texture of snot.

6. Fugu:
Fugu (ふぐ) is the Japanese word for pufferfish and is also a Japanese dish prepared from the meat of pufferfish. Pufferfish are deadly and if the fish is prepared incorrectly it can lead to death (in fact there are numerous deaths reported in Japan each year from the consumption of this delicacy). One pinhead of the pufferfish poison is sufficient to kill a full grown adult male human. It has become one of the most celebrated Japanese dishes. In order to prepare the fish for human consumption, a Japanese chef must undergo rigourous training and certification. It is normally prepared in such a way that a tiny amount of poison is left in the fish as the poison gives it a slightly numbing and tingling effect.

7. Foie Gras:
Second to caviar, foie gras is one of the finest western foods available. It is the liver of ducks (foie gras de canard) or geese (fois gras d’Oie). It is produced by a method called gravage, which is force-feeding of the animal of grain via a tube down the throat. Ducks and Geese have an anatomy that makes this painless. The liver expands to many times the normal size and contains a great deal of fat. The texture of foie gras is very similar to that of butter with a very earthy flavour. Foie gras is generally eaten as a raw pate, but is can be lightly cooked to give it a greater depth of flavour. Unfortunately this delicacy is surrounded by controversy and the sale and consumption is banned in some American cities (such as Chicago). It is freely available in all parts of Europe and the rest of the world.

8. Lobster:
Lobsters form a large family of marine crustaceans that nets a $1.8 billion for the seafood industry every year. They have a close family relationship with fresh water crayfish. Lobsters live on rocky, sandy, or muddy bottoms from the shoreline to beyond the edge of the continental shelf. They generally live singly in crevices or in burrows under rocks. The most common preparation of lobster is to drop the living creature into a pot of boiling water which kills it very quickly. The flesh is then served with melted butter so as to not overpower the subtle flavour of the meat.

9. matsutake:
Matsutake (松茸) is the common name for a group of mushrooms in Japan. They have been an important part of Japanese cuisine for the last 1,000 years. The tradition of mushroom giving persists today in Japan’s corporate world, and a gift of matsutake is considered special and is cherished by those who receive it. The annual harvest of Matsutake in Japan is now less than 1000 tons, and it is partly made up by imports from China, Korea, and Canada; this is due to the difficulty in harvesting the mushrooms. The Japanese Matsutake at the beginning of the season, which is the highest grade, can go up to $2000 per kilogram.

10. Oysters:
The name oyster is used for a number of different groups of mollusks which grow for the most part in marine or brackish water (water that is saltier than fresh water but not as salty as sea water). The oyster is the root of an idiomatic saying “The world is your oyster”, which means that to achieve something in this world, you have to grab the opportunity. All types of oysters (and, indeed, many other shelled molluscs) can secrete pearls, but those from edible oysters have no market value. Oysters are best served raw in their own juices with a slice of lemon. Oysters have, for many years, been considered an aphrodisiac.

How To Shake Dandruff Flakes Away

What causes dandruff? Well, you see, our entire skin, from our scalps to the soles of our feet, sheds dead skin cells on a daily basis. We get a complete coating of new skin every 28 days or so, but we hardly even notice it.

Our bodies also play host to a lot of microorganisms like bacteria and fungi, feeding off on the sebaceous oils that our skin produces. Our scalp in particular is home to a kind of fungus called malassezia fungus, and its food is the oils produced by the hair follicles of our scalp. Dandruff happens when, for some reason or another, the malassezia fungus goes crazy and irritates our scalp, causing the dead skin to shed a lot faster. So, instead of shedding the dead skin cells of our scalp for a month, the shedding happens in less than two weeks, and the oil that our hair follicles produce cause these dead skin cells to clump together and become dandruff.
Until now, the factors that trigger this phenomenon with the malassezia fungus are still the subject of research.

Dandruff is an embarrassing hair condition, and it can recur despite your best efforts. But with proper hair care, the recurrence of dandruff can be controlled. The best way to keep the flakes at bay is to shampooyour hair every day - picture perfect hair.

Dandruff can, of course, become stubborn, so if washing everyday with your regular shampoo does not stop the flakes from becoming haywire, the next best thing to do would be to start using anti-dandruff shampoos. Look for anti-dandruff shampoos with zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, salicylic acid or ketoconazole as the active ingredient. To keep your scalp from developing immunity to these shampoos, go ahead and rotate brands at least once a month.

For optimum results, you can lather your hair with the shampoo of your choice twice. The first wash will clear the scalp of the flakes and the oil buildup. The second one would let the chemicals in the shampoo get absorbed by the scalp - haute hair.

You can also try homemade remedies to wash the flakes away and to keep the dandruff from recurring. What is considered the best homemade remedy to dandruff is a vinegar wash. Mix two teaspoons of vinegar with six teaspoons of water and rub it against your scalp before you go to bed, then wrap your head with a towel. Apply the same solution to your hair once again in the morning when you wake up, then rinse it with water. You do not have to worry about the smell of vinegar in your hair, as the smell of vinegar does evaporate eventually.

Whatever you do, never, ever scratch the clumps with your fingernails. It will cause wounds on your scalp.

Dandruff is an embarrassing hair condition, but it is not unmanageable. Just take good care of your hair and the flakes will go away.

Oily Skin Care Tips

This article, as you can easily guess, talks about oily skin care. If you have oily skin and wondering how you can take care of it, this article is a must-read for you. I am going to give you some simple yet effective tips on how to take care of your skin properly.

The biggest misconception about oily skin is that a lot of people actually think that they need to get rid of the oil on their skin surface completely. So, they use oily skincare products that contain harsh chemicals which make their skin dry. If used regularly, such products could damage the skin badly and lead to aging skin problems. So, what do you need to do? Let me tell you.

1. Stop using soap. It removes the essential moisture from your skin and dries your skin excessively. Dry skin, according to dermatologists, is just as bad as oily skin. So, avoid soap and use a mild cleanser which can gently cleanse your skin while retaining the essential moisture.

Avoid using oily skincare products that contain alcohols or mineral oil. Alcohol tends to dry your skin and irritate your skin. Mineral oil, on the other hand, tends to strip the natural oils from your skin and make you vulnerable to premature aging.

2. Avoid taking showers in hot water as it tends to dry your skin. Instead, shower and bathe in tepid water. Wash your face at least twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Avoid eating too much fast food and eat a well balanced diet. Exercise regularly. These are some of the simple things you can do to improve your skin condition.

3. Go for oily skin care products that contain kaolin, a special type of green clay found in New Zealand. It is known for its balancing effect on the skin. It gently absorbs the excess oil, grime, and dirt while retaining the essential moisture to keep your skin soft and supple.

4. Use organic oily skincare products that contain natural emollients like Crodamol OP and maracuja. These substances can soothe your skin and make it soft and supple without clogging the pores. Using such a product regularly can improve your skin condition considerably.

And that brings me to the end of this article folks. I hope it gave you a good idea of oily skin care. So, follow the tips mentioned in the article and take good care of your skin.

Hair Loss Problem And Cure

Facts about Hair:
· Typically, hair grows an average of an inch every two months.
· The average head can shed up to 100 of its 100,000 hairs every day.
Indication of hair loss:
· Hair Loss generally is noticed in one of two-ways.
· With common pattern baldness, the loss is gradual. It can start as early as puberty, or very late in life.
· Sudden loss of hair, or loss in clumps usually indicates a different problem. This type of symptom could be caused by a number of factors, including hormonal changes, medications, thyroid problems, among others.
· Male pattern baldness typically starts by causing the hairline to recede in the center of the forehead. A bald spot may then form on the top of the head, towards the back and center. Eventually almost all the hair on the top of the head will be lost. This leaves the hair on the sides and back forming the notorious horseshoe pattern.

These manufacturers, organizations pay those website owners for displaying their products' ads. They don't pay them for nothing. They pay them for the publicity of their products. My sense is - yes, you will, only if you are also big and popular, if your web-sites attract a significant number of Internet Visitors, also your site is useful to them, additionally, if the adsense ads that are displayed on your sites pay something significant per click.

Lets do the math, so far I have seen from different peoples' analysis - Adsense pays on an average 20-30 cents/click, where it can go upto 12-15$/click [I think rare] per click.

Camp Fashion Design Draws Budding Designers To New York

The conference room on the third floor of the New York Helmsley hotel is rather dourly decorated in a palette of brown and beige. The scaffolding outside the windows further blocks what little sunlight manages to squeeze down into the canyons between midtown’s high-rises. And periodically, unseen construction workers drill into the walls with a vigor that creates a dull ache that extends from the ears to the molars.

How to Become a Fashion Designer

Fashion designers
Formal education is not required. However, most fashion designers entering the industry have some formal education where they learn design skills, such as how to use computer-aided design (CAD) technology. Employers usually seek applicants with creativity, as well as a good technical understanding of the production process for clothing, accessories, or footwear.

Work Environment

Fashion designers held about 21,500 jobs in 2010. Fashion designers work in wholesale or manufacturing establishments, apparel companies, retailers, theater or dance companies, and design firms.
Fashion designersMore fashion designers work for wholesalers or manufacturers than for any other industry. The lines of apparel and accessories of these wholesalers and manufacturers are sold to retailers or other marketers for distribution to individual stores, catalog companies, or online retailers. In many cases, these designers are “in-house designers.” Although the brands may be familiar to many consumers, the individual designers are largely unknown.
About 30 percent of fashion designers were self-employed in 2010. Some fashion designers own companies that bear their names. They typically design high-fashion garments and one-of-a-kind apparel on an individualized or custom basis. Self-employed fashion designers who are able to set up their own independent clothing lines often already have experience and a strong understanding of the industry.

What Fashion Designers Do

Fashion designers create original clothing, accessories, and footwear. They sketch designs, select fabrics and patterns, and give instructions on how to make the products they designed.

Duties

Fashion designers typically do the following:
 • Study fashion trends and anticipate designs that will appeal to consumers
 • Decide on a theme for a collection
 • Sketch designs of clothing, footwear, and accessories
 • Use computer-aided design programs (CAD) to create designs
 • Visit manufacturers or trade shows to get fabric samples
 • Select fabrics, embellishments, colors, or style for each garment or accessory
 • Work with other designers or team members to create a prototype design
 • Present design ideas to the creative director or showcase them in fashion or trade shows
 • Market designs to clothing retailers or directly to consumers
 • Oversee the final production of their designs

Ease in to Summer Lace Knitting

By Lisa Buccellato
Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer 2012 has many garments with beautiful lace details. You don't have to be an expert to knit one up in time to wear this summer.
Three of these designs—#3 Cardi Wrap, #14 Drop Stitch Scarf and #21 Lace Inset Tank—are ideal for knitters who are new to lace and might not be ready to work shaping on a lace pattern. All three are worked from charts, over a single panel of lace or over a lace repeat.
Lace knitting can look intimidating, but it is just a combination of all the stitches we normally use, such as yo for increases; decreases such as k2tog, ssk, skp; and the double decreases k3tog, SK2P and S2KP. In order to work even in lace, all of the yos must be balanced by decreases, keeping the stitch count constant on every row. Sometimes the paired yos and decs are worked side by side; other times they are separated by plain knitting. In these three patterns, the lace is worked only on the right side of the knitting.
It’s a good idea to work a practice swatch with scrap yarn. This will help you become familiar with the lace pattern before you cast on. Be sure to count stitches at the end of every row to confirm that all yos and decs have been worked. You should work the row repeat more than once to see how the pattern lines up. Because these practice swatches are worked with scrap yarn, they should not be used for gauge. Once you are comfortable with the lace pattern, work up a gauge swatch with the project yarn.

Learning About Fashion

Shop at the country’s best boutiquesAn old friend of mine is visiting Vegas this week, and he’s been teaching me about fashion. Yesterday we went shopping together at the Forum Shops in Caesar’s Palace. I tried on different clothes while he explained some of the basic principles of fashion to me. We plan to go out again this evening. It’s been a very eye-opening experience for me.
For many years I shunned fashion completely. I’ve long considered fashion to be a complete waste of time, a pointless distraction for those whose temporal and financial abundance greatly exceeds their intellectual abundance.
This attitude is fairly common in the computer gaming industry where I worked for many years. Even if I was doing a presentation at a tech conference, “modern schlub” was perfectly acceptable. Nobody seemed to care how anyone dressed. Perhaps the only guy in that field I thought had any particular fashion sense was Dave Perry of Shiny Entertainment, but he was a rarity.

Summer Fashion What to Wear For Warm Weather
