Myth 1:You shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition.

Wrong! You shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition when the sentence would mean the same thing if you remove the preposition. That means "Where are you at?" is wrong because "Where are you?" means the same thing. But there are many sentences where the final preposition is part of a phrasal verb. Can you say “What are you waiting?” No. You need to say, “What are you waiting for?” to make a grammatical sentence. Other examples are: “I'm going to throw up,” “Let's kiss and make up,” “What did you step on?” etc. (The bottom line is that many people think it's wrong, so I wouldn't advise ending sentences with prepositions in critical situations, for example, you shouldn't do it in a cover letter for a job you really want.)

Scarsdale Marinade Recipes

Marinade directions:

Mix all ingredients. Pour over meat, poultry, or fish.

Let meat or poultry stand 2 to 3 hours, turning occasionally.

Let fish stand 1 to 2 hours, turning occasionally.

Scarsdale Marinades for Beef

Beef Tarragon Marinade

3/4 cup tarragon vinegar
1 medium onion, chopped
1 carrot, chopped
4 springs parsley
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3 drops Tabasco sauce

Beef Wine Marinade

3/4 cup dry red (or white) wine
1 onion, minced
1/2 cup chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon tarragon
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (or plain salt, if you prefer)
1 bay leaf
Dash red pepper

 

Fast Cauliflower Fry

Cauliflower Pacchi Mirapakaya Allam Karam

Ingredients:

Cauliflower 1/4
Green n Red Chiles 4
Ginger 1 inch piece
Rice Flour 2-3 tbsps
Salt to taste
Oil 2 tbsps

Method of preparation:

Wash and break cauliflower into florets.
Grind chiles and ginger roughly using a blender.

In a bowl, mix cauliflower florets with chilli ginger paste, rice flour and salt.
Let it marinate for 5-10 minutes.

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cauliflower florets.
Cook covered until tender.
Stir-fry on medium-high heat for 5 minutes to roast them a little.
Serve hot with rice or roti.

Notes: Don’t overcook cauliflower florets.

Cauliflower Potato with Spices

Cauliflower Potato with Spices.

Cauliflower is broken into small florets and potato is diced. Both the chopped vegetables are cooked in oil along with whole spice mix. Finally the dish is seasoned with red chili powder and garnished with cilantro. Serve cauliflower potato with spices over plain steamed rice or with roti.
Makes: around 4 Servings of Cauliflower Potato with Spices.

Multiple Dal Roti

Pappula Rotti

Ingredients:

Toor Dal 1/2 cup
Split Moong Dal 1/2 cup
Masoor Dal 1/2 cup
Chana Dal 1/2 cup
Raw Rice 1 cup
Salt to taste
Oil as required

Method of preparation:

Separately grind each of the ingredients except salt into somewhat coarse powder using a grinder.
Combine all the ground dals into one mixture.
Store the ground dals powder in a jar and use it when required.

To make instant dal roti, take a cup of above ground powder into mixing bowl.
Add sufficient salt and 3/4th cup of water.

Heat a heavy wok on medium heat and pour 2 tbsps of oil into it.
When oil gets hot, pour the dal mixture into the wok.
Cook covered on low flame until the bottom of roti is crisp and cooked (abt. 15 min).
Uncover, turn on other side and cook for 5 – 8 minutes on low flame.
When the dal roti is completely cooked from inside, remove and repeat the same for another roti.
Serve hot dal roti with coconut chutney.

Notes: Make sure to check whether roti is cooked from inside before removing from heat.

Wood Apple Pickle

Velaga Pandu is cracked open and the flesh is pounded along with spice and jaggery till it turns to paste like consistency. Serve wood apple pickle with rice or with dosa etc…
Makes: around a Cup of Wood Apple Pickle.

Ingredients:

Wood Apple 1
Green Chile 1
Dark Jaggery 1/2 Cup – 3/4 Cup (grated)

Tamarind Leaves Masoor Dal

Masoor dal / red lentils are cooked in water till soft but not mushy along with dried tamarind leaves. Dal is finished with freshly fried whole spices. Serve tamarind leaves masoor dal with steamed rice or with roti.
Makes: around 3 Servings of Tamarind Leaves Masoor Dal.

Garlic Spice Mixture

Fresh garlic cloves are peeled and fried in oil till golden in color. They are then ground into powder along with roasted lentils, spices and tamarind. Store garlic spice powder in a dry jar and it stays fresh for couple of weeks. Serve garlic spice mixture with steamed rice and dollop of ghee or with dosa etc…
Makes: around a Cup of Garlic Spice Mixture.

Ingredients:

Garlic 10 – 5 Cloves Medium
Urad Dal 2 Tbsps
Chana Dal 2 Tbsps
Cumin Seeds a Pinch
Whole Red Chiles 3 – 4
Tamarind 2 inch Piece
Oil 1 1/2 Tbsps

Method of preparation:

Peel the garlic cloves.

Heat oil in a pan, add garlic cloves and fry on low flame till they turn golden in color and remove from heat.
Add the tamarind to the warm pan and keep aside.

Heat a heavy bottomed pan on low heat, fry urad dal , chana dal and cumin seeds separately until golden in color or until aromatic.
Add a few drops of oil to the pan and add the broken red chiles and toast them until the red chiles are crisp.
Cool the roasted ingredients to room temperature and grind them into powder.
Stir in fried garlic cloves, tamarind and salt and pulse a couple of times into coarse mixture.
Serve garlic spice mixture with steamed rice and dollop of ghee or with dosa etc…
Notes: Make sure not to burn any of the ingredients while roasting.
