I sent Bips on a date with Dino: Suzanne Dadhich

In a world full of glitz, glamour and popping flashbulbs, it's friends who keep you grounded. And no one knows that better than Bipasha Basu.

I sent Bips on a date with Dino: Suzanne Dadhich
On the occasion of Friendship Day, we decided to ask the Bong belle about her best pal, and pat came the reply — the Philadelphia-based Suzanne Dadhich. "Suzzie is understanding, loving and encouraging. We've been friends from the time I was a nobody! She is the best human being ever," says Bipasha about her buddy.

It's late in the night when we call up Suzanne in the US. But the moment we mention Bipasha, she's more than willing to share her thoughts. "I first met her while working in a production house. She was 16 and had just come down to Mumbai. She said she had no friends and we would go out. She is very down to earth and remains just the way she was when I had first met her. Contrary to perceptions, Bipasha is very shy. She loves rice but has it only once a year on her birthday."

Talking about birthdays, Suzanne says, "Bipasha loves to be surprised. On her birthday, she gets very upset if we don't surprise her. She's also a very emotional person. I remember once her domestic help in Mumbai ran away with her money. Bipasha cried for a week trying to fathom how this girl, whom she had showered with love and affection, could do such a thing! Tears come very easily to her. And, love, for her, is very important."

Suzanne and Bipasha were inseparable till she got married and settled down in Philadelphia, five years ago. Even then, they are very much in touch with each other. It was Suzanne who had first got Bipasha introduced to Dino Morea. "I sent the two of them out on a blind date. Dino had just won a model hunt. I was very close to him and he was more like my family. Soon, Bipasha and Dino started going around. When they parted ways, Bipasha knew that I would still be friends with Dino. She had the grace to accept it. Of course, it was difficult. But today, I am so glad that Dino and Bipasha are friends," she says.

With John, it was different. "She met him when they were shooting for " Jism". Bipasha was already an established star. John was a model. He was the one who would run after her. Bipasha was shy and I was the first one to know when they were in love."

Being friends with a couple makes it difficult to remain that way after a break-up. "When they broke up, it was traumatic for Bipasha. I am still friends with John. When you are pally with someone, you can't just sever ties all of a sudden. I never talk to the media about what went wrong in their relationship. Personally, I always see both sides of the coin. They know that if they talk to me, I will never take sides. But yes, being in such a situation can be very difficult for a friend," she says.
