Bollywood's bikini bombshells

Bollywood's bikini bombshells
Louis Reard would have been happy to see how much his designed garment— 'bikini' (in 1946) not only redefined beach fashion, but helped B-Town beauties sizzle on screen.

The mandates of wearing a bikini in Bollyland haven't changed since Sharmila Tagore wore one for a magazine cover in the 60s — great body, confidence and attitude. It has now evolved as a must-wear for actresses who have fab figures to flaunt.

Amping the oomphometer with their bikini acts in recent times are Deepika Padukone (in Cocktail, a scene that according to many was the only high point in the film), Sunny Leone (in Jism-2), Shazahn Padamsee (in Housefull 2), Sarah Jane Dias (in Kya Supercool Hain Hum), Bipasha Basu (in Players). Katrina Kaif is reportedly toning herself for a bikini act in Dhoom 3. While Sonakshi Sinha categorically says she will "never wear a bikini," most actresses have come to terms with the garment and want to join the two-piece club to make a point. Celeb dietician Pooja Makhija says, "Deepika (Padukone) has a great body but even for her bikini shot in Cocktail, her diet was fine tuned in such a way that she had fat loss. You need a trainer and good diet plan for a bikini body."

The term sexy came to be defined in the 90s when Urmila Matondkar wore one in Rangeela that redefined her oomph quotient in Bollywood. Kareena Kapoor's bikini in Tashan sparked off the size zero controversy and turned an entire generation into fitness fanatics. Anushka Sharma shed her inhibitions when she slipped into the bikini twice over, in Badmaash Company and later in a sexy black number in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.Priyanka Chopra scorched the screen in her debut film Andaz in a sexy bikini, while Lara Dutta worked out to slip into a two piece in Blue. Sexy Mallika Sherawat sported the bikini in Khwahish, Murder and Double Dhamaal. Kangana too joined the bikini club with Rascals and the demure Minissha Lamba slipped into one in Kidnap.

Bipasha who wore a bikini in Players says, "In Bollywood, a lot is made out of a bikini scene, so you need to be extremely fit, and sexy to wear one in a film. I had to go for a six-week rigorous training of warm-up, stretching, relaxation, abdominal exercises and pilates, eat low fats and carbs to get in shape." Shazahn Padamsee says, "When Sajid (Khan) asked me to wear a bikini for Housefull 2, I was reluctant initially because I didn't have a fit body, and I hadn't worn it earlier. A woman can look extremely sensual in a bikini scene, provided it is shot well. I had to undergo a major diet routine to get into a bikini, went through a fitness regime as well."

B-Town actresses might say that they are donning the bikini because of script demands, but the hotness quotient of a film multiplies when they wear one, and grabs max eyeballs.
